Bob Speers earned his undergraduate degree from Iowa State University in 1967, and went on to obtain his law degree from the University of Illinois College of Law in 1972. After law school, Mr. Speers practiced at the Aurora law firm of Reid, Ochsenschlager, Murphy & Hupp until 1979 when he, George Lindner, and Tim Reuland formed Lindner, Speers & Reuland, P.C. In November 2006, the firm became Speers, Reuland & Cibulskis, P.C.
Mr. Speers concentrates his practice in the areas of personal injury, wrongful death litigation, and mediation and arbitration of personal injury, wrongful death, and commercial cases. He has tried cases to verdict over 60 times in jury trials involving automobile collisions, products liability, construction site injuries, premises liability, defamation, dram shop, fire loss, and causes of action under Illinois’ Animal Control Act. These cases have involved death, paralysis, brain injury, amputation, and other catastrophic injuries.
From 1972 through 2003, he handled hundreds of cases for Farmers’ Insurance, including 36 jury verdicts. In Kane County, he has two jury verdicts in excess of $1 million. Mr. Speers is also certified as a civil mediator for the Sixteenth Judicial Circuit, and has been a mediator in over 600 tort and commercial litigation cases. He has been selected as an arbitrator in over 140 cases.
Mr. Speers is a member of the American Association for Justice, Illinois Trial Lawyers Association, Illinois State Bar Association, and Kane County Bar Association, serving as the Kane County Bar Association President in 1988-89. Over the course of his career, he has been selected as a member of the Leading Lawyer Network in general personal injury law as well as alternative dispute resolution for both commercial litigation and personal injury. He has also been selected as an Illinois Super Lawyer for general personal injury. The September 2014 issue of Leading Lawyers Magazine (Business Edition) lists Mr. Speers as one of the “Top 10 Leading ADR: PI Neutrals” in Illinois. He is the only one listed outside of Cook County.
